“Finding Hubby” Nigeria’s First Blog to Big Screen Adaptation Hits Cinemas

The film adaptation of the “Finding Hubby” blog series by Tunde Leye was on Friday released in cinemas across Nigeria. It is the first time a blog series will be made into a feature-length film in Nigeria. Prior to its cinema release, the film was officially unveiled at an exclusive watch party in Lagos attended by the film’s cast and crew as well as Nollywood stakeholders and partners.

Speaking about the film after the watch party on his Twitter profile, Oris Aigbokhaevbolo, a writer and Nollywood Critic said "I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Finding I entered the dark hall in the dark. Happy to report that I laughed and laughed. I recommend it for a girls night out."

Finding Hubby follows the adventures of a fictional Oyin Clegg, a beautiful, successful but romantically unlucky Lagos lady and her friends Toke and Gloria. The three leading characters in the film are played by Ade Laoye, Kehinde Bankole and Munachi Abii respectively. Other actors in the film include Efa Iwara, Tina Mba, Paul Utomi, Omowunmi Dada and Charles Etubiebi.

The skill with which the Femi D.Ogunsanwo directed flick employs comedy to address the societal pressures on Nigerian ladies is echoed by Nollywood Producer and Director Walter “WaltBanger “Taylaur who noted that "Finding Hubby is such a riot!!! So much fun. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Well told story and a rollercoaster of emotions"

The author of the “Finding Hubby” series Tunde Leye says it his hope that the project would inspire people never to compromise on their happiness due to pressure from families and friends while in the pursuit of a partner.

“The film recognises the pressure that women especially face as they approach a certain age. In the past when women marry, they might not have gotten enough education as their male counterparts and the expectations were less but this time around, they get as much education and other things. However, the society still ties the old expectation of when they will marry to the new realities and that has created a sort of uneven balance.” he said. The author added that he decided to write a story about this having seen that pressure in a lot of people he had interacted with.

Finding Hubby is distributed by Genesis Pictures.
